Hackathon Participants Meet at BEU within Framework of Climate Crisis Cooperation with INHA University

A meeting was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) with the participants of the hackathon organized within the framework of the agreement signed between BEU and the Climate Crisis Response Project Group of INHA University of the Republic of Korea titled “Establishing Cooperation to Respond to the Global Climate Crisis.”

It was noted during the meeting that the first hackathon was organized last year under the agreement. A BEU student who was among the winners of last year’s project visited the Republic of Korea in May this year and participated in environmental training programs.

This year’s hackathon brought together Korean and Azerbaijani students in four teams. Each team consisted of three students: one Korean student, one BEU student, and one student from Azerbaijan University of Languages (ADU). The teams jointly developed projects addressing climate change and presented their projects at the final stage of the hackathon. The most successful projects were selected by a jury comprising faculty members from INHA University and ADU.

Welcoming the participating faculty members and students on behalf of the Rector of BEU, Vice-Rector for International Relations Etrabə Gul highlighted the special significance of the six-year cooperation between BEU and INHA University, as well as the BEU–INHA Double Degree Program (BEU–INHA DDP). She noted that, considering the successful outcomes of the program, its implementation period was extended until 2030 by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated July 22, 2025, “On Additional Measures to Increase the International Competitiveness of the Higher Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

Emphasizing that climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges facing humanity, Atraba Gul noted the growing importance of scientific knowledge, innovative technologies, and international cooperation in addressing this issue. She stressed the importance of the active involvement of young researchers and future engineers in combating climate change.

The Vice-Rector also noted that international projects and academic exchange programs of this kind make an important contribution to developing students’ research potential, innovative thinking, multidisciplinary collaboration skills, and sense of social responsibility, while also providing them with opportunities to become familiar with academic environments in different countries.

At the end of the meeting, Atraba Gul expressed her appreciation to the representatives of INHA University, the project organizers, and all hackathon participants.

The Korean faculty members who attended the event expressed their pleasure at being back at BEU and shared their positive impressions of Azerbaijan and the university.

The hackathon results were then announced, and certificates were presented to the members of the winning teams. Cash prizes were awarded to each member of the teams that secured first and second places.
