BMU–INHA IDPFaculty impressions

Professor from INHA University Highlights the Importance of the Summer School Held at BEU

2026

Professor Sangjo Lee from the Department of Statistics at INHA University of the Republic of Korea has shared his impressions of the latest summer school organized at Baku Engineering University (BMU).

As part of the Dual Degree Program implemented between BMU and INHA University, the Korean professor delivered lectures on “Introduction to Statistics” to students majoring in Data Analytics (Data Science). He noted that the lectures primarily focus on methods for summarizing data and presenting it through graphs and various statistical measures.

“Then, based on this summarized data, statistical conclusions are drawn about the overall population that cannot be directly observed, allowing scientifically grounded decisions to be made. These topics form the fundamental foundations of statistics. The key message I particularly want to convey to students is that statistics is not simply a collection of numbers. Data are not merely fixed figures; behind every piece of data lies an event, a process, or a story. The purpose of statistical analysis is precisely to uncover the meaning and patterns hidden behind the data,” Professor Sangjo Lee emphasized.

The Korean professor also shared his impressions of Azerbaijan, expressing his great pleasure at being in Baku:

“This is my first time visiting Baku. I came here with my family — my wife and our 20-month-old son. The people I have met in the city are very kind, sincere, and hospitable. They have always been willing to help me, even with the smallest things. That is why I am very happy to be in Baku and am truly enjoying my time here.”

It should be noted that the latest summer school organized at BMU for students of the Dual Degree Program with the participation of INHA University faculty aims to deepen their theoretical knowledge, develop practical skills, and provide them with international academic experience. A total of 13 faculty members from INHA University have been involved in the teaching process.
